A Positive Spin On Things

Here we go. This is it! I'm putting myself out there for all to read. It seems like at least once a week during one of our daily catch-up phone calls, my mom tells me, "Katie, you really should blog about that," so I've decided to take her advice and go for it.

For weeks I've contemplated where to begin. For a girl who is newly married, knows ABSOLUTELY no one in her lovely city (just the wonderful chiropractor), and sits in her apartment on a comfy green couch from morning until night writing case documents for her father's law firm, the topics at first seemed to be few and far between. Topic ideas consisted of 'the freezing cold weather and the ridiculous amount of snow I see falling outside of my window,' 'how does dust accumulate so quickly on furniture?' and 'nonstick pans are great to cook with, but are not worth it due to the required hand washing!' I was focusing on all the WRONG THINGS. So, as time has passed in this wonderful city of East Lansing, I've found that even though I am EXTREMELY happy with my marriage and honestly think I have the greatest friend and husband in the world, it is time for me to make a major attitude adjustment.

In my current living situation, I've realized that in order to truly enjoy life, I must look beyond the routine - otherwise I would constantly be bored. During the instances that something wacky, thoughtful, touching, or hilarious takes place, I will soak the moment in to its fullest. Of course the late night movies and mid afternoon lunch breaks I spend with Darek between his crazy law school study schedule are and will always be enough to make me happy and know that I am blessed with what I have- we have found that with the life we are currently living, we must find amusement in the ordinary.

In light of putting this new positive spin on life, I have decided to call this blog "The Bright Spot." Hopefully, a place you can go to laugh and feel good. No negative thoughts allowed-unless of course, they add to the hilarity of the moment. So please, enjoy!

  2. That me smile and reminded me of AMELIE. Watch it again! That film is all about taking pleasure in the simple things! Your blog also reminds me of your grad school application essay about Grandma loving Trees! By the way, I would not buy a gadget that could clean out long stemmed glasses, I think. Cheers.

  3. You have always been a 'bright spot'! I can add a hilarious moment you created in my life yesterday: the 'talking text' you sent about the 'posture pump'... I'm looking forward to your insights. My best-

  5. Thanks for for this 'bright spot'. I felt as if I were right there watching you find the perfect place for the flower and then finding yourself a place near it!
Thanks for the smile this gave me. When a day is going badly it's easy to give in to the tendency to overthink, thereby making the day worse. You have chosen the better way--to make every day a good one.
